Harvesting rainwater with rain barrels to use for watering your landscaping, the rainwater can help to improve the health of your gardens, lawns, and trees. Rain is a naturally soft water and devoid of minerals, chlorine, fluoride, and other chemicals. For this reason, plants respond very well to rainwater. After all, it's what plants in the wild thrive on!

Mike Heimos has worked for the City of Columbia for the last 15 years. Mike started with the City of Columbia’s solid waste division working with the outreach and education recycling program. Mike currently is the City of Columbia’s Stormwater Educator. He coordinates education and outreach programs for the Storm Water Utility; city wide staff training on BMP’s for good housekeeping and works with local community groups and organizations to help keep Columbia waterways clean and healthy.
